I came across this short film titled Webcam, and I thought to share it with you guys. The film is a true story based on very true, harrowing events. Back in 2010, police arrested a 31-year-old Californian man for hacking into young women’s computers and spying on them.
According to the FBI, the hacker “used malicious code to infect and control the computers of his victims.” He would search and download explicit images, then use them to manipulate the women and get more material.
The producers behind “Webcam,” which was shot entirely on a computer’s camera, recreated the story in hopes that “it will make people think more about the technology that [they] use every day.”
Truth be told, the way power distribution is set up in this country, it would be difficult for anyone to spy on me with my webcam. My computer is definitely put to sleep whenever I’m not using it, but hey, we all should still be careful.
