War Room movie posterThis film’s trailer is the best I’ve seen all year; it moved me in ways no trailer and very few movies have done. This is one I’m definitely adding to my must-watch list.

As a Nigerian film consumer, getting good Christian content can be very hard. More and more, Nollywood filmmakers seem to be running away from religious themed stories and the few ones you get are riddled a lot of plot holes and terrible acting.

Good news though, a new film by the Kendrick brothers (they were the brains behind Fireproof and Courageous) is set to hit cinemas on August 28. Titled War Room, the film explores the power prayer has on marriages, parenting, careers, friendships, and every other area of our lives.

War Room follows the story of Elizabeth and Tony Jordan who on the surface, seem like they have it all, but deep down, their lives crumbling under the strain of a failing marriage. While Tony basks in his professional success and flirts with temptation, Elizabeth resigns herself to increasing bitterness. But their lives take an unexpected turn when Elizabeth meets her newest client, Miss Clara, and is challenged to establish a “war room” and a battle plan of prayer for her family. As Elizabeth tries to fight for her family, Tony’s hidden struggles come to light. Tony must decide if he will make amends to his family and prove Miss Clara’s wisdom that victories don’t come by accident.

Directed by Alex Kendrick, the film casts Priscilla Shirer, Alex Kendrick, T.C. Stallings, Michael Jr. and newcomers Karen Abercrombie and Alena Pitts.

Yes, I know it’s not a star studded cast, but gems have been known to be produced with a relatively unknown cast.

The only disturbing news is that I’m not sure it’ll be coming to Nigerian cinemas, and since we are talking about a Christian film, getting the pirated version is out of the question (it’s stealing after all). However, if someone decides to start a petition for one of these cinemas to bring it to Nigeria, I’ll sure be willing to sign.
