I read somewhere that 2015 was going to witness a rise in the use of Content Marketing as a digital marketing technique. Throughout 2014, there was only one memorable example of this technique being utilized: GTB’s Ndani TV. Part of Ndani TV’s strategy was creating Gidi Up, a series that has gone on to become one of the most popular in Nigeria today.
Apparently, Access Bank is jumping on that train too, with the introduction of its Accelerate TV, which is targeted at young adults and has an array of creative content ranging from information and entertainment articles to punchy videos, fashion trends.
I think that’s enough free advert for one day.
What I really want to talk about is the new show available on the Accelerate TV titled Indigo. You know what Gidi Up is to Ndani TV? Well, that’s what Indigo is to Accelerate TV.
The series is about an AD Executive, Myra Goodman (Munachi Abii) who decides to put a boy band together (INDIGO). This draws the displeasure of her vindictive music executive ex-boyfriend, Desmond Okoye who will stop at nothing to hijack the Project.
Written and directed by Imoh Umoren, the show stars Munachi Abii, Shawn Faqua, Wana Udobong, Baaj Adebule, Geoffrey Oji, Vincent Zakari, Kingsley Obike, Kingsley Agbo, Berry and DJ Moe.
I watched the first episode, and I must confess, I’m not terribly convinced with Muna’s acting skills. It would have been cool if she had been put in a supporting role, but putting her in the lead role just magnified her deficiencies.
One positive to take away though, is the ex-boyfriend character. He can be genuinely be funny at times. In general, the series looks like something to watch in your spare time.
Watch the trailer and first episode below.
N.B: It’s just 9 minutes, so you don’t have to worry too much about your data.
