I have a feeling I’m not the only one tired of post-apocalyptic films. It just seems like Hollywood has sucked it dry and it’s time to move on to something else. That said, I always appreciate movies that take on very familiar subjects in an unfamiliar way. This is the case with Lionsgate’s Z for Zachariah which is loosely based on a 1974 novel by Robert C. O’Brien.
The film tells the story of a young girl, Ann Burden, who managed to survive the aftermath of a nuclear war – but has started to fear that she may well be the last person alive on Earth. Things start changing for the better when Ann encounters John Loomis, a scientist who’s nearly gone insane searching for other survivors, but who offers Anne good companionship. This is the case until a mysterious fellow named Caleb shows up and makes the trio’s situation very complicated.
Directed by Craig Zobel, the film stars Margot Robbie, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine, and is due to for a limited theatrical release on August 21, 2015.
