Wonder Woman

Warner Bros. yesterday, announced a reshuffle in their movie lineup, with the solo Wonder Woman movie having been moved up from June 23, 2017 to June 2, 2017.

For those of us who loved Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the news couldn’t have been better, as we get to see our favourite Amazonian princess a good three weeks earlier.

No official reason has been given for the shift, but a look at the slate of movies due around that time gives us an idea of why Warner Bros. might have made the move.

The fifth installment of the Transformers franchise is expected to be released on June 23, 2017, and while the franchise is not exactly very popular with critics, the franchise has not failed to produce Box Office Juggernauts, with the least grossing film earning more than $709 million (and two of the films surpassing the $1 billion mark). In that light, it probably was a good move by Warner Bros. to move Wonder Woman to another date.

Other changes in date that were announced include that of Andy Serkis’s Jungle Book: Origins, which was pushed back a whole year from October 6, 2017 to October 19, 2018. Many suspect this move is to further distance the movie from Disney version of the Rudyard Kipling classic which is due out in cinemas next week, and is already receiving rave reviews from critics.

Even Andy Serkis himself expressed satisfaction at the announcement of the date change, stating that it gives him and his team more time to perfect what they are doing, and achieve what “is an unprecedented level of psychological and emotional nuance in morphing the phenomenal performances of our cast into the facial expressions of our animals.”

Warner Bros. couldn’t help but add a little mystery to the mix, by scheduling two untitled DC cinematic universe films for October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019. The announcement of these two dates have sent the rumor mills in motion, as many are already suggesting that the slots could be for the much talked about Solo Batman movie to be written and directed by Ben Affleck, as well as the solo Superman movie we’ve been hearing about lately.
