Homefront stars Jason Statham as former drug enforcement agent Phil Broker, a family man who moves off the grid with his daughter to a seemingly quiet wetlands backwater to escape his troubled past. Jason as a family man? That’s not the Jason Statham that we know.
However, Broker’s world soon becomes anything but quiet once he discovers that an underbelly of drugs and violence riddles the small town. Soon, a sociopathic meth kingpin, Gator Bodine (James Franco), puts Broker and his daughter in harm’s way, forcing Broker back into action in order to save his family and the town.
The trailer captures some elements a good trailer should have – the opening sound, the music, the quick cuts, the mute, voice over, and the story. Though it started off as a regular family drama kind of movie but soon it shows that Statham will end up having to fight some guys in a fracas and the trailer does not disappoint in this regard. Franco is also given a fair bit of screen time which is quiet good as it allows the viewer to see the kind of character he is playing, Kate Bosworth also appears a fair bit too as Gator’s girlfriend and partner in crime.
The trailer seems a bit too long, that’s one flaw noticeable. It contains a few unnecessary scenes that are just there for no good reason.
Fans of action flicks and Statham of course will find a lot to like in this movie. We all know him as a very good action star and he is always believable in his roles, and lately he has been taking on roles in films that have a bit of drama to go with the action. Good for him!
His role here is more interesting than some of his earlier ones as he plays a father with responsibilities, he is not playing another nonconformist loner who does what he wants and disregards all the rules. His cockney accent also enhances his role as an outsider in a small town which is cool.
James Franco on the other hand is also very talented, but his role here is surprising as he is not known for playing this type of bad guy. He doesn’t look like he could take on Statham in a fight though. But let’s see what happens in the movie. The cast is very unusual; having such unlikely actors face each other in a film like this should be interesting.
The film will be released on November 29th, check out the trailer and let’s know what you think. But for us, its a Soda and Popcorn for this trailer.
