Pitch Perfect 2It’s a big weekend in Cinemas. Hollywood has not had a weekend this competitive in a long time. In Nollywood, two of the most anticipated movies of the year in, Iyore and Thy Will Be Done finally arrive.

If after a long week of work, you are in the mood for some entertainment, and you feel a cinema is where you want to go, in no particular order, here’s a list of top four movies to see in cinemas this weekend.

Iyore

Iyore posterDirected by Frank Rajah Arase, Iyore is a mixture of historical facts and fiction. The film explores a tragic love story centered on the rich culture of pre-colonial Benin through to the present day of Benin while exploring the supernatural ideas of reincarnation.

The movie stars Rita Dominic, Joseph Benjamin, Paul Obazele, and Bukky Wright.

Just so you have an idea of what you’re in for, the movie got nominated in 10 categories at the 2014 Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards.

Thy Will Be Done

Thy Will Be Done movie posterNow, I can personally vouch for this movie, because it is one I have seen. These days, there’s a conscious effort in Nollywood to make good movies, and this movie carries on that consciousness effortlessly.

Thy Will Be Done is the story of Pastor Pius (Ramsey Nouah) and his wife (Mercy Johnson), who have their lives thrown into a dilemma when the pastor’s first wife (Mary Njoku) who was presumed dead, shows up seven years later. Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, Pastor Pius at the risk of losing everything, must make a decision.

Directed by Obi Emelonye, the movie also stars Jide Kosoko and Enyinna Nwigwe.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road posterThis movie has been described as having a thin plot, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it is probably the best movie that has been released this year. With films like Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron having already been released, that is one bold claim.

As of today, the movie has a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 166 reviews.

If you saw the first one, I’m sure I don’t need to do much convincing for you to go see this one. At a time when most of the movies coming out of Hollywood are Action packed and gory, Pitch Perfect 2 takes the other way to bring viewers, a group of young ladies with beautiful voices and hilarious characters.

Following an incident involving Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) having a wardrobe malfunction at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Barden Bellas are suspended from the circuit of A Capella performing. In order to regain their status, the Bellas enter the international competition, a colossal task seeing as how no American team has ever won.

The movie stars Anna Kendrick, Skylar Austin, Rebel Wilson and Ester Dean.
