Short films are an excellent way for aspiring filmmakers to launch their careers and hone their filmmaking skills. This is why events like the Afrinolly Short Film competition and Indieview Lagos are important parts of Nigeria’s movie industry today, and we at Sodas & Popcorn HQ try as much as possible to put out as many as we come across.
Newbie, Precious Ohimai recently released online his first Short film, One Good Deed. You can watch it in the embedded player below.
According to Precious, One Good Deed portrays the experiences and challenges facing the average student and how one decision—whether good or bad— can cause a huge chain reaction in our lives and also affect the lives of those we come across.
The film stars Precious Ohimai, Funwa Awosika, Faith Olawuyi and Kevin Ogbogu.
I have to say the first thing that jumped out at me was the quality of the audio. For most of the film, the movement of the actors’ lips were not in sync with the audio. The acting too could have been better in a lot of places, but we appreciate that this is Precious’ first attempt at making a short film. Also, the difficulties that come with filmmaking in Nigeria are very daunting, even for veterans in the industry.
Watch the short film and come to your own conclusions.
