Forbes, yesterday released a list of the highest paid actors worldwide, and for the third year in a row, Avengers and Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. was top of the list. The actor took home a whooping $80 million. This figure was helped in no small way by the success of Age of Ultron in China. Jackie Chan ($50 million), Vin Diesel ($47 million), Bradley Cooper ($41.5 million) and Adam Sandler ($41 million) round up the top five.
In related news, Time Magazine’s money blog recently published a list of the wealthiest superheroes of all time, and you won’t believe who came top. While it would make sense that billionaire playboys, Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne would top the list, both come in second and third place respectively, behind, wait for it…Black Panther.
According to the article, TChalla/Black Panther’s wealth is estimated at a mind boggling $90 trillion (yes, you read that right). This insane amount is because T’Challa is the king of Wakanda, a fictional African country with nearly all of the world’s reserves of Vibranium. Vibranium, being a super-strong metal (Captain America’s shield is made out of it), doesn’t come cheap. The comics put the price at $10,000 per gram, and Wakanda is said to have about 10,000 tons of the material in its vaults. When/if you do the math, that’s an insane amount of money.
Tony Stark’s $12.4 billion puts him in second place, while Bruce Wayne comes in third with$9.4 billion. Professor Charles Xavier ($3.5 billion) and Emma Frost ($1-3 billion) complete the top five.
Thankfully, a Black Panther movie is on the way, so we’ll get to see how the King of Wakanda puts all that money to use.
