About a month ago, we told you that Marlon Wayans was planning a spoof of erotic drama, Fifty Shades of Grey. We can now also confirm that the movie, which is going to be titled Fifty Shades of Black (duh..) has been picked up by Open Road, and will hit cinemas on January 29, 2016.
It should be said however that Open Road’s picking up of the film is not coming as much of a surprise, seeing as they picked up two other spoofs by Mr. Wayans (Haunted House Part 1&2), which went on to be massive commercial success (at least based on their budget).
Fifty Shades of Black will be financed by IM Global, the same company that financed the Haunted House Movies.
Speaking on the project at an earlier date, Marlon Wayans said, “We’re excited to be back in business with IM Global doing our comedic remix of this movie. Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand and I’m looking forward to having fun with this project. It’s amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of. I’m really happy to be doing what I love with people I love to do it with. That double entendre was intentional.”
Wayans also said he does not like to refer to the movie as a spoof, but a humorous homage to the original film and he hopes it will appeal to both his fans and fans of the original Fifty Shades movie.
Wayans talks about the Fifty Shades of Black Film in detail in the video below.
