AMAA 2015The nomination list for the 2015 edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has been released, with Kunle Afolayan’s October 1 and iNumber Number from South African director, Donovan Marsh, leading the pack with 8 and 12 nominations respectively. Both these films are also in contention for the 2015 AMAA for Best film.

Other nominees include Tunde Kelani’s Dazzling Mirage, Lancelot Imasuen’s Invasion 1897, Silver Rain, Timbuktu and so on. Ini Edo, Jocelyn Dumas and Queen Nwokoye will slug it out for the award of Best actress in a leading role, while Sadiq Daba, Tony Kroroge and Abdoul Kareem Konate are all in contention for the Best actor in a leading role award.

The organizers also announced that this year’s edition of the Awards Ceremony will be held in South Africa on September 26, which makes a lot of sense seeing as a South African film has the highest number of nominations. These two factors may be good steps to making other film industries outside of Nigeria truly feel like it’s not just a Nollywood thing, and thus give AMAA the continent-wide recognition it has always sought and deserves.

Check out the full list of nominees below.
