The premiere had the film’s cast and crew in attendance including OC Ukeje, Fulu Mugovhani; director, Sara Bleacher and producer Terry Pheto.
The 2015 edition of the L.A Film Festival is an annual event that showcases films from all over the world, and about five or six thousand movies were screened before the final 75 feature-length and 60 short films are chosen. The festival is also known for giving the first break to David Oyelowo’s Nightingale which had been turned down by every other film festival they had sent it to.
Apart from Ayanda the Mechanic, other films that premiered at the festival include, A Girl Like Grace, a coming-of-age story about a girl who’s bullied and stars Meagan Good, Raven-Symone and Garcelle Beauvais; Treasure, the tragic journey of a transgender woman by Dream Hampton, and Sweet Mickey for President, a biopic about Haitian president Michel Martelly from Pras Michel of the Fugees. Michel also performed at one of LAFF’s signature Grammy Museum concerts.
This year’s edition runs till the 18th of June.
