Kunle Afolayan, the director and producer of three films widely acclaimed and worthy of mention, “Irapada”, “Figurine” and “Phone Swap”, has begun work on his 4th movie, “October 1”.
The film, according to sources, will cost a whopping $2 Million and will be shot under the stable of his production company, Golden Effects the film is set in 1960, against the backdrop of Nigeria’s independence. The cast will include actors from Nigeria and the UK and it was written by Tunde Babalola. ’October 1′ is a psychological thriller detailing the activities of a northern police detective, Dan Waziri, who was posted to the western region to unravel the mystery behind a series of female murders in the community.
Dan soon discovers that the prime suspect is Aderopo, the prince of the community. Waziri however does not have plenty of time on his hands, as he is expected to bring the prince to book before the Nigerian flag is raised on October 1.
Kunle Afolayan, son of the famous producer, theater and film director, Ade Love has said that he thinks this is the film that will get him “there” – “there” being, a film that can compete on the international cinema stage, and that, as he boldly claimed, could get Oscar nominations.
Veteran fashion designer cum actress, Deola Sagoe makes her screen debut as one of the lead roles in the movie where she plays Funmilayo Ransom Kuti (Fela’s mother).
“October 1” stars Sadiq Daba, Kehinde Bankole, David Bailie, Kayode Olaiya, Nick Rhys, Fabian Lojede, and Demola Adedoyin.
