Paramount Pictures announced via press release that master director Christopher Nolan has begun principal photography on his next project, the sci-fi epic “Interstellar.” The movie is due out in theaters next November.
As the release notes, Nolan is shooting the movie in Alberta, Canada, using a mix of IMAX and 35mm film. The script by Nolan and his brother Jonathan chronicles “the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.”
This marks Nolan’s return to an original concept following his last movie, “The Dark Knight Rises,” the third (and final) installment of his Batman trilogy.
“Interstellar” features a star-studded cast (pun intended) that includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, John Lithgow, Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine.
Considering the high-profile lineup and Nolan’s previous success with original stories — he’s received Oscar nominations for “Memento” and “Inception” — “Instellar” is a likely bet for next year’s awards season.
