[Movie Review] The Year 2012 In Retrospect. #SodasAndPopcornYearInReview

M.Y: So here we stand. It feels a lot longer than a little over three months to me and the year is gone already. I was the pessimistic little lad who wasn’t sure I would be getting your audience right now, yes you. I never thought we’d be able to catch your attention. But we did that! I, together with these guys whose names most of you are familiar with. I’m talking about Zubby, Kiki, and Terdoh.

Terdoh: So first of all, I would like to say that Ozone owes me a refund for all overhyped and crappy movies they let seep into their theatres that had me coming out looking like “what the heck did I just see?” You guys owe me plenty plenty.
Yeah I am okay now. I just had to get that out of the way.
Zubby: The year 2012 has been quite a year for every one of us down at the Sodas & Popcorn HQ. All-in-all, we just want to say a big thank you to God Almighty for giving us the insight to come up with something such as this and the wisdom and strength to keep it up and running. Our families, for their love and support and most especially, YOU, our readers.
Now back to the koko, why we are here?
Kiki: M.Y, do the honours.
M.Y: We are simply here to give y’all a recap of the year 2012, movie-wise, that is.
Zubby: A lot of really good movies were released this year, same for the terrible ones. For those which fell below our expectations, here is the list.

  • The Hunger Games
  • The Dictator
  • Total Recall
  • Resident Evil annihilation
  • The End of Watch
  • Savages
  • Last Flight to Abuja
  • Alex Cross
  • Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
  • Underworld Awakening

Kiki: If I may solemnly add, I am yet to complete the viewing of End of Watch and I have a feeling I wouldn’t anytime soon.
Terdoh: On the other side, the really awesome movies that were released this year are listed below.

  • Argo
  • Looper
  • The Dark Knight Rises
  • Skyfall
  • The Avengers
  • The Amazing Spiderman
  • The Hobbit
  • Ije-The Journey
  • Prometheus
  • Phoneswap

M.Y: After 17 posts, I can only pick one favorite, which will be The Dissathon. Of course I had fun on that one and I was happy the readers felt the same way too. My favorite movie of the year has to be The Hobbit because it is simply everything Lord of The Rings is and more. My least favorite has to be Last Flight To Abuja because it is simply everything a movie isn’t and shouldn’t be.
Terdoh: My favorite post here is the same as M.Y.’s. We both did that on the movie “Last Flight To Abuja”. Mostly because we were angry and funny at the same time. Also because we had good chemistry while writing, and because, I think we managed to pass a message across. My favorite movie of the year is definitely Looper. The movie is Awesomeness in a Script. My least favorite? Going with M.Y. on this again.
Notice how the LFTA movie made best post and worst watch? Talk about epic.
Zubby: Favorite movie of the year for me is also Looper. The catch phrase of the movie explains it all, “hunted by the past, haunted by the future”. My least favorite was Hunger Games to me. It greatly fell short of the pure beauty of the novel. My favorite post is the Top 10 Villains list, simply because we put in a lot of research into that post.
Kiki: As the only lady in the crew I get to pick two favorite posts…hehe *grins* The Top 10 Villains list and the Looper review even though I wasn’t in it. As for my favorite movie this year, I’d have to go with M.Y on this one. It’s The Hobbit for me. Least favorite…err…End of Watch I guess. Lots of them in the basket but I just had to pick that one. A shame one of my many heartthrobs, Jake Gyllenhaal, was in it *sigh*
M.Y: So since we have got a tie, I guess the Popcorn, Soda and Hotdog rating goes to The Hobbit and Looper. Really superb movies, both of them. If you haven’t seen them, you totally should.
Kiki: By the way guys, We have some really lovely ideas coming up this year that you would surely love to be a part of.
Zubby: Should I tell them now M.Y?
M.Y: *grins* Yes! Please tell them.
Zubby: Sodas and Popcorn will be having a yearly event, starting from 2013 where movie buffs in Nigeria, fans and critics alike, come around to sit down and have talk about movies and Nollywood in particular and a host of other stuffs.
Terdoh: This just keeps getting better. A lucky fan would walk away with some really awesome prize at the end of that day. This is the part where I deny all association with the blog just so I can win something.
Kiki: Imagine! That’s like selling your birthright for a pot of stew, Terdoh!
M.Y: And for those of you who want to be a part of Sodas and Popcorn and cannot wait till December 2013, Friday Feature is your chance to do that. Visit the link to find out more.
Zubby: So from all of us here at Sodas and Popcorn HQ, we say a big thank you once again. Merry Christmas and a glorious God-filled new year in advance. Lights out!
