Terdoh: The best way to watch or anticipate a movie is with the lowest of expectations.
M.Y: When we saw trailer one, we were like “sigh. So this is Godzilla meets Transformers meets Power Rangers….Not interested”
Terdoh: Then Trailer two came out and we were like “hmmmm…okaaaay, this is like a merger of all monster movies we grew up watching and giving this an anime theme, not bad but still meh”
M.Y: And then, there was trailer 3 and I think that’s where I got convinced and the interest in this movie grew so tall.
Terdoh: No wonder you arrived at the theatres 2 hours early…any ways please give our readers a synopsis of the movie
*Idris Elba’s voice mode activated*
M.Y: In the nearest future, humanity faces the threat of extinction from an alien life called Kaiju which unexpectedly came from beneath the sea through a rift. To fight monsters, the humans came together and developed the Jaeger Program to combat the monsters.
Terdoh: Directed by the very imaginative Guillermo del Toro(Hell Boy and Pan’s Labyrinth ) and written by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham(Clash of the Titans and Dog Days of Summer )
M.Y: It stars Idris Elba(Prometheus and Thor) as Stacker Pentecost, Charlie Hunnam(Sons of Anarchy and Children of Men )as Raleigh Becket, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori (Brother’s Bloom)and a host of other folks.
Terdoh: Monsters attacked Us
M.Y: We Built our own Monsters
Terdoh: Monsters Bash Monsters
M.Y: Until ……well we wouldn’t want to spoil it for you guys would we?
Terdoh: Annnd that’s pretty much it. If you are expecting some Cloud Atlas or Inception shit going on, then just move along. There is nothing for you to see here.
M.Y: BUT! If you are an anime fan(boy/girl) and you love giant monsters and you love a visually stunning and ear deafening experience, then, this is so recommended for you.
Terdoh: At a point, Ozone’s speakers couldn’t take it any more. I think they reduced the volume sef…lool…just kidding o.
M.Y: Though the story could have been better, I very much doubt del Toro’s focus was a deep story.
Terdoh: Were you expecting a deep story from Avengers? Abegi jare. Let’s move on. No need to waste time
M.Y: Well, if you are familiar with Del Toro, then you know this guy is one of the best in the business at the moment. The visuals in this movie were beyond awesome
Terdoh: I mean awesome is an understatement . It really gave that cartoony feel while still looking as serious as it could manage to be.
M.Y: One thing I never really liked was the fact that we never saw the monsters clearly. We did see their full structure, but every freaking time they showed up, there was a storm and it was at night so I didn’t like that.
Terdoh: And what’s it with this year and destruction? I mean with the amount of destruction I have seen so far in this year together, I should just watch Gandhi’s Biopic for the rest of the year.
M.Y: Well, I don’t think anyone even cares any more. Other than that, it is a superb directorial performance
Terdoh: This Charlie Hunnam guy just seemed like he had a stick up his ass all through the movie.
M.Y: This movie was supposed to depict the two co-pilots and protagonists having a very close inseparable bond, but they didn’t even feel like the central characters.
Terdoh: Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Hunnam never seemed like they shared any close bond. As a matter of fact, it seemed forced.
M.Y: The duo of Charlie Day and Burn Gorman as Dr. Newton Geiszler and Gottlieb were kinda annoying at some points in the movie
Terdoh: But then, Idris Elba did deliver a close to an Oscar Nominating performance. He totally owned the show
M.Y: And he did own a couple of the best lines in the movie also, and that speech wasn’t so bad either
M.Y: Okay this is the first time I will be so confused about what to give a movie. Its freaking awesome for the fights and visuals. It also delivers one of the best fight scenes I have seen in a while(Hong Kong Scene) so if you are out to just enjoy that and have fun, do come along with a full pack of popcorn and 2 cans of soda, cus this is a lengthy movie(doesn’t feel so long though once you start)
Terdoh: But if you seek a solid story…pass…For us, it’s a Popcorn and Soda. It was worth my money.
