Move Over The Birth of a Nation: Watch The Trailer For Slavery Themed Series, Underground, Everyone’s Been Talking About


Underground posterNate Parker’s The Birth of a Nation has dominated the news since it made its debut at the on-going Sundance Film Festival. It even generated a bidding war between big Industry players such as Netflix, The Weinstein Company and Fox Searchlight Pictures.

In the same spirit, WGN America has released the trailer for its upcoming slavery themed TV series titled Underground. You can watch it in the embedded player below.

Underground follows a group of courageous men and women who use their ingenuity, power and perseverance to attempt the greatest escape in history and break free, despite the dire consequences that awaited them on the other side. A courageous blacksmith Noah covertly organizes a small group of his fellow slaves and pieces together a daring plan of escape across hundreds of miles to freedom. The odds of success are razor-thin for those who make it off the plantation, while the risks, dangers and obstacles multiply each step of the way.

The series stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Christopher Meloni, Alano Miller and ‎Jessica de Gouw.

The 10 episode, hour long series will premiere on March 9.
