Deadpool is already tracking for an opening weekend of at least $65million, and Fox is wasting no time in making arrangements for a sequel.

It’s a few days to the film’s release, but reports have already emerged that Fox is so confident in what they’ve done with Deadpool that they’ve already approved a sequel.

According to news making the rounds, the script for the sequel is already being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the first one. Director, Tim Miller, is yet to be announced as the director of the sequel, but it is strongly believed that he will be retained, since Fox is intent on keeping the movie’s creative team together.

A release timeline has not been made public yet, but we expect details of that to be made public in the coming months.

Based on Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Directed by Tim Miller, the film stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, T.J Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Morena Baccarin and Ed Skrein.

Deadpool hits cinemas worldwide on February 12.
