Jon Bernthal Joins Marvel’s Daredevil As The Punisher

Jon Bernthal

I always wondered what Marvel’s plan for The Punisher was, seeing how they’re bringing back virtually all their characters either to the big or small screen. I got my answers yesterday when Marvel confirmed Jon Bernthal (you might remember him from the Walking Dead) will be joining Netflix’s Daredevil, where he will be portraying The Punisher.

The Punisher is another vigilante in New York’s Hell Kitchen, but unlike Daredevil, he is ready to do whatever it takes to clean up the streets no matter the consequences, or how it is done.

Speaking on the development, Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television said, “Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s (The Punisher) appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

This move might be a precursor for The Punisher getting a full series of its own as this might just be a testing ground for how fans will react to the character.

Whether this is the case or not, I would be excited to see how The Punisher fits into the Daredevil story when the show returns for season 2 in 2016.

Oh, and in case you haven’t seen the first season yet, I totally recommend that you do. It’s awesome. If you need more convincing, you can watch the season 1 trailer below.
