Not a lot of actresses in Hollywood have the kind of liberty to pick and choose roles the way Jennifer Lawrence does. She’s arguably the most sought after actress in the industry right now, so she probably gets a lot of calls from producers wanting her on their sets.
So she probably doesn’t need a valid reason to quit the set of the X-Men franchise (other than the expiration of her contract). This however is not the case, as the actress has revealed health concerns are the reasons she might not be returning to play the role of Mystique after X-Men: Apocalypse, which is due for release next summer.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Oscar-winning actress said she is fed up with breathing in the toxins and fumes that come with the blue paint she needs to wear in order to play the character.
“Now I’m almost 25 and I’m like, ‘I can’t even pronounce this and that’s going in my nose? I’m breathing that?’”, she said about the makeup.
Lawrence had in the past talked about how annoying it was to have to put on the Mystique makeup, and even categorically stated she would not be returning for another one, but it seems something has changed now, as she admitted to EW that she might be tempted to return for another one, but all that will be figured out at a later date.
It sounds to me like that last part was her trying not to be pessimistic. It feels like she’s made up her mind already. I hope I’m wrong though, I love JLaw as Mystique, and I hope she settles her differences with the producers so we can get to see more of her in X-Men movies.
Jennifer Lawrence plays Raven (Mystique) in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse which is due out in cinemas on May 27, 2016.
