Marvel and Disney have released the first trailer for their upcoming superhero film, Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor. You can watch it in the embedded player below.
The trailer introduces us to the world of Dr. Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon (and one of the best in the world), who cares a lot only about his money, himself and most importantly, his hands. Things take an awry turn however when Strange gets involved in a car accident that leaves his hands severely injured, and putting his ability to perform surgery again in doubt. Doctor Strange then goes on a wild goose chase, trying to get his hands fixed, so he can get back to work, but he encounters very little luck until he hears about someone called the Ancient One who apparently can cure anything.
So Stephen heads to India to seek out the Ancient one (Tilda Swinton), and after months of searching, he finally finds her temple. Unfortunately for Strange, the Ancient One is interested in healing more than his hands: she sees his selfish persona, but believes there is some good hidden within him, and so she plans to get it out of him.
While at the temple, Doctor Strange meets Karl Modo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), another student of the Ancient One. Although in the comics, Karl Modo becomes one of Doctor Strange’s greatest enemies, reports suggest that he will be an important ally to Doctor Strange in the movies.
We also get a glimpse of Mads Mikkelsen, who plays the film’s villain unnamed villain, but has been described as a sorcerer, who breaks off into his own sect against the Ancient One.
The film has been described by some as a mixture of Inception and The Matrix, which kind of makes sense, seeing all the visual effects and kaleidoscope used.
Doctor Strange was directed by Scott Derrickson.
The film hits cinemas on November 4, 2016.
