Notwithstanding that it’s just four episodes into its first season, HBO seems to think Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s, Ballers is worthy of another season, as the network has renewed the show for season 2.
In truth, it’s not hard to see Ballers being renewed for a second season, seeing as it currently holds the record for the most-watched debut episode of a half-hour HBO series since 2009 (an impressive 8.9 million viewers).
According to Michael Lambardo, president of HBO programming, “The charismatic and hugely talented Dwayne Johnson, along with the rest of the ‘Ballers’ cast, has truly struck a chord with the HBO audience. We are thrilled with the overwhelming response the series has received and look forward to another exciting season.”
Set in Miami, the series looks at the lives of former and current American football players. It follows former superstar Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) as he gets his life on track in retirement, while mentoring other current and former players through the daily grind of the business of football.
Ballers also stars Omar Benson Miller, John David Washington, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, Rob Corrdry among others.
The show was created and executive produced by Steve Levinson. Mark Wahlberg, Peter Berg, Dany Garcia, Julian Farino, Evan Reilly and Rob Weiss all act in the capacity of Executive Producers.
