Like Nollywood (with Kannywood and the likes), the Indian film industry (Bollywood) is divided into smaller units based mainly on the language of the local people, and it is two of these smaller units-Tollywood and Kollywood- that have produced India’s most expensive movie yet.
Bollywood has been known to produce some expensive movies in the past, but Tollywood and Kollywood have upped the ante with a new film titled, Bahubali (The one with strong arms), which is said to have been made for a whooping $40 million, almost double the second on the list.
Described as the Indian version of Hercules, 300 and Troy, the film tells the story of two warring brothers battling for control of an ancient Indian kingdom.
Directed by S.S Rajamouli, Bahubali features superstar actors, Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah and the likes, and was made primarily in the Tamil and Telugu languages. The first installment of the two-part epic hits the screens in India on July 10.
