Until about a week ago, it was a done deal that Channing Tatum would be playing Gambit, but then rumors of a breakdown in negotiations surfaced, and it suddenly looked like the role was going to someone else.
It seems like both parties have put their disagreements behind them, as The Hollywood Reporter has reported that a deal has been closed for Tatum’s involvement in the X-Men spin-off movie.
THR also reported that negotiations did indeed hit some sort of snag, but such is expected in a deal that could keep Tatum tied to Fox and the X-Men universe for up to a decade. That the deal would have fallen through completely was not very likely to happen though, as the actor has been hinged to the movie in the role of producer, and even made a surprise appearance at X-Men’s panel at the recently concluded Comic Con 2015.
Gambit will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), from a script by Josh Zetumer and is due to hit cinemas on October 7, 2016.
