The court sentenced Khan to 5 years in prison, although the actor was facing up to 10 years of jail time. It is however expected that he will appeal the case at the Mumbai High court.
As one of Bollywood’s biggest names, Khan is credited to have been in over 80 movies, and has several others in the works. Some of his popular films include, The Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, and so on. According to reports, the film industry in India could lose up to $30million dollars if Khan’s sentence is upheld by the appeal court.
I sincerely hope this bit of information does not in any way, affect the dispensation of justice in this case.
Khan claimed that he was not behind the wheels at the time of the incident, and that his driver was driving the sports utility vehicle that ran over the victims. Prosecutors however, argued that Khan was indeed behind the wheels, and lost control of the car after a night of drinking.
