Uzo Aduba at the 67th EmmysIt was a big night yesterday at the 67th annual Emmy Awards, as How To Get Away With Murder star, Viola Davis, made history by becoming the first African-American to go home with the award for best Lead Actress in a Drama.

Davis had to see off very stiff competition from Claire Danes (Homeland), Taraji P. Henson (Empire), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men) and Robin Wright (House of Cards) to claim the coveted award.

You can watch her emotional acceptance speech which was one of the highlights of the night below.

HBO dominated the awards yesterday, going home with more awards (14) than the rest of the networks combined (12), including the awards for Best Drama (Game of Thrones), Best Comedy series (Veep) and Best Limited Movie or Special (Oliver Kitteridge).

Game of Thrones went home with a total record breaking 12 awards, with Oliver Kitteridge coming in second place with 6.

The other big (and not quite surprising, if I might add) win of the night was Mad Men actor, Jon Hamm claiming the award for best actor. Many had predicted a win for him, long before the event held yesterday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, yesterday. The win makes it Hamm first award in the category and is even more special since Mad Men has come to an end.

Other notable wins include Uzo Aduba winning the award for Best supporting actress in a Drama series, representing the only award won by streaming service giant, Netflix, on the night. She had to see off fierce competition from Joanne Froggatt, (Downton Abbey), Lena Headey, (Game of Thrones), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Christine Baranski (The Good Wife) and Christina Hendricks, (Mad Men).
