If you were curious about where the Fast & Furious franchise was headed next after the events of Furious 7, Universal has released the first trailer for the movie, which has been officially titled The Fate of the Furious.
The Elephant in the room is obviously how Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) seems to have turned on his own team/family, and they in turn, have no choice but to go after him. Probably becasue Cipher (Charlize Theron) has his sister (or nephew) locked up somewhere and is using her as leverage against him. After the family focused 7th chapter, The Fate of the Furious seems like a big departure, and one that makes sense too.
They’re trying new things, and this could be an intriguing new direction for the franchise. Aside from that, the action sequences looked good, as you’d expect. Jason Statham also makes a comeback, and is somehow part of the team. How this plays out should be interesting. At the end of the day if you were into the previous ones (and I was), you’ll probably enjoy this one too, even if it’s sadly missing a key player in Paul Walker, who died in 2013, mere months before shooting wrapped on Furious 7.
Directed by “Straight Outta Compton” helmer, F. Gary Gray, the film stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Scott Eastwood and Helen Mirren.
The Fate of the Furious arrives the big screen on 14 April 2017.
